Wando swimming sinks Magnet in first meet

Wando swimming swept Academic Magnet in its season opener Thursday in North Charleston.

The Wando girls team tallied 111 points to Magnet’s 59, while the Wando boys outpaced the Raptors 106-64.

“I’m pleased with the team’s effort and love the hard work that has been put forth,” first-year Wando head coach Cheryl Durden said.

The Warriors earned first-place finishes in 12 events Thursday.

The Wando boys and girls teamed up to win both the 200-meter medley relay and 200-meter freestyle relay. Wando’s Carrie Hillebrand won the girls 200 and 500 freestyle. Laura Brotherton won the girls 200 individual medley. Caroline O’Neil won the girls 50 freestyle, and Victoria Conley took first in the girls 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Emmanuel Emovon won the boys 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Jack Adams won the boys 100 freestyle and Miller Ducker won the boys 500 freestyle.

Wando is back in the pool Sept. 4 at West Ashley.
