Be Fit Charleston

Saturday, Sept. 6, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Old Towne Creek County Park

Take in the views of Old Towne Creek County Park during the fall fitness festival and farmers market. Activities include a 1-mile fun run, water slides, boot camp, yoga and interpretive nature walks for the whole family. Bring a bike or a pair of walking shoes and explore on your own. Sign up for the Be Fit CSA. Attendees will be entered for door prizes. No pre-registration required. Simply pay admission upon arrival. Rain date: Sat, Sep. 27. Fee: $10


Mount Pleasant Pier Fishing Tournament: Cooper River Challenge

Saturday, Sept. 6, 6 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Mount Pleasant Pier

Enjoy fantastic fishing at the foot of the Ravenel Bridge on Charleston Harbor. Prizes will be awarded for the largest game fish catch in the following categories: Adult Angler, Lady Angler, Youth Angler (12 and under), Senior Angler (60-plus), and Total Weight of Five Fish. On-site registration begins at 6 a.m. Tournaments held rain or shine. For additional information, call 843-762-9946. An adult chaperone is required for participants ages 15 and under. Fees: $13/$10 CCR Discount; $8 for seniors or youth ages 3-12. $5 for Fishing Pass Holders.


Dog Day Afternoon

Sunday, Sept. 7, noon – 5 p.m.

Whirlin' Waters Adventure Waterpark

Waterpark season is over, but on this special day, dogs will have free rein at Whirlin' Waters. Dogs can cool down in the wave pool and lazy river, and smaller dogs are invited to splash in the kiddie pool area to beat the heat. These areas will be open for dogs only; owners will not be allowed in the water. Concessions will be available for purchase. Dogs must be up-to-date on all vaccinations for entry into the event. Tickets are limited; advance purchase is recommended. Call 843-795-4386 for more information. A registered and paid chaperone is required for ages 17 and under. Owners are free with their pets and must keep pets close at hand and in control at all times. Fee: $15 per dog/$12 CCR Discount & $12 on-site (if available).


Wannamaker Summer Movie Series

Saturday, Sept. 13, movie begins around sunset

Wannamaker County Park

Join guests for a movie under the stars. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Socialized dogs on a short leash are welcome. No alcohol is permitted. Call 843-795-4386 or visit www.charlestoncountyparks.com for movie title. Movie is free with park admission fee of $1 per person.


Shaggin' on the Cooper with The Coppertones

Saturday, Sept. 13, 7-11 p.m.

Mount Pleasant Pier

Spend an evening dancing on the scenic Mount Pleasant Pier to live music by the Ocean Drive Party Band. Gates open at 7 p.m. and music begins at 8. Beverages and food will be available for purchase. Tickets are limited; advance purchase is recommended. A photo ID is required to gain entry. A registered and paid chaperone is required for ages 15 and under. Fee: $10.


Yappy Hour: Big John Belly

Thursday, Sept. 18, 4 p.m. - sunset

James Island County Park dog park

Free event with park admission. Join organizers after work at the James Island County Park dog park for live music by Big John Belly and beverages available for purchase. No pre-registration required. Simply pay gate admission upon arrival.

Carolina Green Fair

Sunday, Sept. 21, noon – 6 p.m.

James Island County Park

This festival is free with your admission fee to James Island County Park ($1 per person). The Carolina Green Fair features conservation education through fun and inventive demonstrations, interactive play and music, and education shared by experts in their field. Come celebrate “being green” while enjoying beer, food, music and artisans from the Lowcountry. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. No coolers, outside food or beverages permitted.


Pups, Yups, and Food Trucks

Thursday, Sept. 25, 5 p.m. – sunset

Mount Pleasant Palmetto Islands County Park

It's a party in the park with your dog. You and your pup are invited to join us after work for live music performed by Soul Fish Duo, beverages and food from Moose's Mobile BBQ. All dogs must remain on leash. No outside alcohol or coolers permitted. Free event with your regular park gate admission.


Folly Pier Fishing Tournament

Saturday, Sept. 27, 6 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Folly Beach Fishing Pier

Join guests for some fishing fun and good-spirited competition at one of the largest piers on the East Coast. Prizes are awarded for the three largest catches in the Big Fish category and for the largest catch in the King Mackerel category. Pre-registration will end Sep. 25. On-site registration will begin at 6 a.m. Tournaments held rain or shine. For ages 3 and up; an adult chaperone is required for participants ages 15 and under. Adaptive Recreation Expo

Sunday, Sept. 28, noon – 5 p.m.

James Island County Park

Free event with park admission fee of just $1 per person. Come out for a day of sharing and exploring adaptive recreation opportunities for youth and adults with physical disabilities. Try a variety of adaptive sports like paddling, bocce, archery, climbing and yoga. Visit vendors to learn about other recreation opportunities and watch wheelchair basketball and dance demonstrations. Pre-register by Sept. 14 and receive a free lunch. A chaperone is required for youth ages 15 and under. Open to ages 10 and up.


Wine Down Wednesday

Wednesday, Oct. 1, 5-7 p.m.

Old Towne Creek County Park

Scenic Old Towne Creek County Park is not yet regularly open to the public, but on select dates this October, the park will be hosting community events featuring wine, hors d'oeuvres and live music. Enjoy this beautiful new West Ashley parkland. Wine Down Wednesday is $20 per person at the gate (discount available for Charleston County residents who purchase advance tickets) and admission includes wine, snacks and a commemorative wine glass. Latin American Festival

Sunday, Oct. 5, noon – 6 p.m.

Wannamaker County Park

Feel the heat at the 2014 Latin American Festival. Celebrate the sights and sounds of the Latino world. Live Salsa and Merengue music will fill the air as families enjoy authentic food, craft items, kids' activities and much more. No pets, outside food or beverages permitted. $10 entry; $5 for students and members of the military with a valid ID; free for Gold Pass Holders and children ages 12 and under.
