Former Bishop England teammates returned to Charleston last weekend donning new college colors to square off in the 2014 College of Charleston Invitational.
Bishop England volleyball standouts Ellie James and Mary Harriet Moore played together on three state championship teams while in high school. Saturday, James, now a sophomore outside hitter at Mercer, and Moore, a freshman middle hitter at Davidson, reunited on opposite sides of the net.
Davidson earned the win over Mercer in three sets, 25-15, 25-21, 25-23, to pick up its first win of the season. Moore tallied four kills and a dig, while James, hampered by injury, recorded two digs.
Mercer earned the tournament's overall team title, going 2-1 with wins over Kent State and College of Charleston. James logged eight digs against College of Charleston after turning in six kills and 16 digs against Kent State.
Davidson suffered losses to College of Charleston and Kent State in the opening rounds of the tournament. Moore put together four kills and a dig against College of Charleston and tallied seven kills, three digs and a block against Kent State.
