Palmetto Christian Academy dropped its season debut, 49-0, at Porter-Gaud Friday in Charleston.

Porter-Gaud (1-1) built a 21-point lead through the first quarter before adding two more touchdowns in the second to enter halftime leading by 35.

Palmetto Christian (0-1) put together 66 yards of total offense against Porter-Gaud's 446.

Making his first career start, Eagles freshman quarterback Cale Lewis threw for 61 yards. Chase Shimakonis caught two passes for 33 yards and added a 25-yard kick return. Ben German caught three balls for 29 yards. Cole Teece led the Cougars backfield with 14 yards on three carries. Davis Diel added 11 yards to go with a team-high seven tackles on defense.

“We've had many opportunities for young players to gain valuable experience,” Palmetto Christian head coach Chris Shimakonis said. “As a staff and players, we will continue to compete and build our team.”

Palmetto Christian travels to McClellanville Friday to close out its season-opening three-game road stretch against Lincoln.
