After almost two decades of providing East Cooper kids with good, old-fashioned fun, the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department (MPRD) is proud to kick off its shoes and launch another season of sock hops.
Held seven Fridays each school year, the sock hops offer a safe, fun setting for fourth- and fifth-grade students to dance and enjoy an evening with their friends and peers.
Founded by current MPRD Program Division Chief Stacey Harrington, these monthly school-year dances host upwards to 250-400 students on average and have become an formative experience for East Cooper kids.
This season's sock hops kick off Friday, Sept. 12, and continues on Oct. 10, Nov. 7, Jan. 9, Feb. 6, March 13 and April 7. Each dance takes place at the Mount Pleasant Town Hall Gym from 5:30-8 p.m.
Attendance to each dance is by advanced registration only; no registrations will be taken the night of the sock hop. Attendance is limited to 400 students and registration is $6 per student per event. Each sock hop features a live deejay playing the lastest hits and supervision provided by MPRD staff and volunteers. Parents are welcome to stay and watch the kids unwind or drop off their children in a safe environment for worry-free evening.
