Tempo Indoor Cycling and Endurance Training is teaming with Roper St. Francis Sports Medicine to launch a unique, club-based training program for endurance athletes of all ages and levels.

The club, Team Tempo, will not only tap into scientific training methods usually reserved for elite, professional and collegiate athletes but help foster a sense of community and camaraderie among its participants.

Central to Team Tempo's approach is providing club members with goal events, such as road races, triathlons and bike rides and races.

"Having a goal is the number-one key to achieving health and wellness goals," said Kyle Radaker, owner of Tempo Indoor Cycling and Endurance Training.

In addition, Team Tempo members will train together and share the camaraderie of working toward common goals.

The team's headquarters and primary training facility is Tempo Indoor Cycling, located at 1009 Anna Knapp Boulevard in Mount Pleasant.

"We're first and foremost providing an environment for applied training," said Kyle Radaker, owner of Tempo Indoor Cycling. "We're not a sports clothing store that has a team that we outfit."

Team Tempo already has trained and sent top finishing athletes to events such the East Cooper, TryCharleston and Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series triathlons and the grueling Assault on Mount Mitchell bike ride and climb.

In the latter, nine weekend warriors, many with professional jobs, ranging in age from 29 to 55 finished the 100+ mile ride to the top of the highest peak on the East Coast.

Currently three sponsored athletes - Tommy Clarke, Justin Davis and Erin Boineau - are training for Ironman Racine, an official Ironman 70.3 that is also known as a Half Ironman.

The event features a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike and a 13.1-mile run.

In May, the club gained a major boost with a $13,000 sponsorship from Roper St. Francis Sports Medicine.

Team Tempo Director John Heeke says the sponsorship will enable the club to bring together athletes of all skill levels and experience under one roof.
