CrossFit

Say good-bye to your fat clothes. EatFit LiveFit + CrossFit Mt. Pleasant, a new group training facility opened this summer in the Park West subdivision at 1118 Park West Blvd., is about forging lifelong fitness for all ages - children through seniors. With a variety of group training options, EatFit LiveFit + CrossFit focuses on core functional training, highlighting endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, coordination, balance and agility through a mixture of exercises.

For owner Tina Whetzel, EatFit LiveFit + CrossFit is about working with people-especially women-to overcome weight issues, the challenges of life and work balance, and to stop the cycle of dieting. The first step may be parting with clothes that fit an overweight body as incentive to create a healthy lifestyle and weight.

"I battled my weight for a decade and tried every diet in the book, so I understand the challenges people face," Whetzel said. "My goal is to help people create healthy lifestyles through diet and exercise, not some fad that helps them quickly drop 10 pounds and then gain back 20 next month. This is about a manageable and effective lifestyle change."

Also at the new studio, Charleston Krav Maga will offer T.E.A.M. Kids Classes, women's only, beginner and intermediate self-defense classes. Children also can get in on the CrossFit craze with classes available for children ages three to 12. Children focus on improving stability, strength and power through natural movements like running, jumping and climbing, while also learning good nutrition habits.

Chiropractic

Dr. Josh Cole received his Master's in Sports Science and Rehabilitation this past April. While attending Logan College of Chiropractic, Dr. Cole took additional classes on top of his chiropractic coursework. These classes included additional Anatomy, Psychology of the Athlete, Exercise Physiology, Upper and Lower Extremity Active and Passive Rehabilitation, On Field Assessment, and Sports Exercise Testing and Prescription. While in school Dr. Cole had the privilege to provide triage and chiropractic at the Missouri State High School Rodeo Championships, NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, and National Junior Disability Championships. He was also a Graduate Assistant at Missouri Baptist in St. Louis, Mo. developing strength and conditioning programs for the Women's Lacrosse team.

After moving, he completed an internship at Velocity Sports Performance in Mount Pleasant. While at Velocity Dr. Cole helped athletes improve form on the field and in the weight room. Dr. Cole states "Many injuries that occur to athletes are because of improper form. At velocity I taught athletes proper jumping and landing form, acceleration and velocity phases of running, multi-directional movements, and technique in the weight room. When these things are taught at a young age athletes end up being faster, stronger and more coordinated than their fellow athletes."

Dr. Cole also performed internship responsibilities at the MESSA 8K for H20 and the 2010 Cooper River Bridge Run as the only chiropractic physician on staff with his brother, Dr. Luke Cole.

The Master's in Sports Science and Rehabilitation prepares Dr. Cole to work with athletes of all levels from amateur to elite.

The coursework has prepared him to offer the athlete new ways to reach their training goals without injury and offer the injured athlete cutting edge rehabilitation techniques. With the Master's he also plans on teaching Anatomy and Physiology at a local college in his spare time.

Drs. Josh and Luke Cole are third generation chiropractors with a therapeutic approach to treating symptoms of pain and illness through non-invasive procedure.

Their goal with treatment is to not only alleviate pain quickly but give the patient the tools to keep the pain from coming back. Both Drs. Cole are certified as golf fitness instructors through the Titelist Performance Institute.

Computer Service

"The computer world changes every day, but business people shouldn't have to keep up with it," says Bill Atkins, co-founder of Lowcountry Computer Works in Mount Pleasant. "I've been in the Charleston area for several years, and one thing I've heard again and again is that people don't know where to turn for comprehensive computer solutions," said Atkins.

Partner Laramie Guest agrees: "Our job is to let business owners concentrate on running their companies while we keep on top of computer issues. It's counterproductive for them to try to stay on top of a constantly-changing computer universe. They need to focus on what makes them money."

The new Lowcountry Computer Works offers a full range of services from common repairs to complex networking, database, and security issues. Their perspective is one of broad based knowledge gained from over 40 years of combined experience with computers and technology.

Local clients include American Media Services, the nation's largest radio station development firm; online music service TheRadio.Com; commercial music service "Storecasting;" and Fowler Media Consultants. Lowcountry Computer Works is also creating an interactive blog for VietnamVeterans.US, a non-profit site serving the nation's large veteran population, which is scheduled to debut in late September.
