Top 100 Golf Community

Travel +Leisure Golf has again named Daniel Island one of “America’s Top 100 Golf Communities,” as announced in the magazine’s January/February issue. During an extensive review process, editors evaluated several hundred golf communities across the country according to location, range of amenities and standard-setting service.

“These 100 exquisite environments are case studies in how to make life on earth as pleasing, stimulating and worthwhile as possible,” states the introduction to the article. “They have sited themselves within the finest natural surroundings one could wish for, and added all the comforts of home.”

Conceived more than 10 years ago, Daniel Island’s award-winning master plan incorporates nationally-ranked golf courses by Tom Fazio and Rees Jones within an island town setting.

The Daniel Island Club is the recreational centerpiece of the island’s golf-oriented neighborhood, Daniel Island Park. It is the nation’s only club with private courses by Fazio and Jones — widely recognized as the game’s top traditional designers — that play on the same property. Members and their guests also enjoy a state-of-the-art golf learning center, comprehensive practice facility, spectacular golf clubhouse and outstanding swim, tennis and fitness facilities.

‘Oasis Hyperbarics’

Doctors Eric Brittain and Tim Osbon announced the opening of Oasis Hyperbarics at 1156 Bowman Road, Suite 103, in Mount Pleasant—a new medical treatment clinic specializing in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. Used worldwide for many years and commonly called HBOT, this method of medical treatment delivers 100 percent oxygen to a patient within a pressurized chamber.

During a HBOT treatment session, pressurized oxygen fills the hyperbaric chamber, increasing the oxygen concentration within a patient’s body to 15-20 times greater than normal atmospheric pressure.

Increased oxygen tension accelerates healing processes and aids in recovery from a wide variety of medical conditions and illnesses, including: autism, brain injuries, chronic pain syndromes, Crohn’s disease, interstitial cystitis, Lyme disease, non-healing and post surgical wounds, rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, sports injuries and ulcerative colitis.

Call 654-7337 to schedule your free physician consultation. Contact John Bohr, clinical director, for more information about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and the Oasis Hyperbarics clinic or visit www.oasishyperbarics.com for a complete list of treatable conditions, a description of what patients can expect during the course of treatment, and testimonials from patients who have benefited from hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

Tasteful Options

Laura Alberts on Daniel Island recently expanded the restaurant. After six years in business, owners Laura Leppert and Karen Elsey felt the time was right to grow the seating capacity of the lunch cafe. The transition was an easy one opening the current space into the vacant unit next door. The new Wando Room can seat 40 guests while the Cellar Room can accommodate up to eight guests. The demand for meeting space for business lunches, bridal luncheons and rehearsal dinners prompted the decision to expand. These rooms can be reserved for a private breakfast, lunch or dinner. The new area is also used to seat diners when the original lunch cafe is at capacity. The restaurant is open for privately catered dinners and monthly wine dinners.

The four course wine dinners are open to the public by reservation only.

Citadel Enterprises

Alice Nixon Burress, Architect and Design Division director at Citadel Enterprises, has earned the designation of Certified Green Professional. The designation comes from the National Association of Home Builders and gives assurance to homeowners that the design/build architect/remodeler they choose has knowledge of green design and renovation practices.

Some of these options include choosing energy efficient appliances and equipment, using sustainable or recycled products, and incorporating indoor air quality devices into the architectural plans and remodel.

In order to receive the designation, Burress participated in a three day training and education session. She studied a variety of information tailored to sustainable and environmentally-friendly building and business practices.

Additionally, she agreed to adhere to a code of ethics that states she will reduce the environmental impact of design/build projects by incorporating these “green” practices into her work.

“My approach has always been one of utilizing available space properly, looking at site orientation, protecting the building envelope, and designing to high standards for energy efficiency. Products and technical approaches often change with time, and keeping up with some of these advancements is an advantage to our clients,” Burress said.

Citadel Enterprises’ President, Pete Loy, is also a Certified Green Professional. He earned his qualification last spring. “Having two people in-house with this designation will not only benefit our environment, but also our clients as we make them aware of green building options they otherwise might not have considered,” he said.

What do people really think of having paid parking on Sullivan’s Island?
All for it, as long as residents get a sticker to put on their car to be exempt from it.

Why is this fair- I have been coming to the beach for years and I support your commercial district.

Sure, considering that the neighboring beaches, Folly and Isle of Palms, have paid parking. Sullivan’s can certainly use the revenue for the many projects they need completed, mainly installing the stormwater drainage.

What do you think of Sullivan's Island's new noise ordinance, restricting noise from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM?
Ridiculous -- what next, we will get fined to just walk in the commercial district?

All for it -- people cannot keep their windows open at night anymore because of the noise.

I am just going to go elsewhere to make some noise!
