Charleston Contractor’s Assn. names Engineer and Architect of the Year

The Charleston Contractor’s Association recognized the area’s top talents in their trade at the 2009 Architects and Engineers Award Banquet on April 13. The American College of the Building Arts hosted the annual event, welcoming 190 guests to congratulate the winners and raise $511 for the College.

Doug Clark of Glick-Boehme and Associates was selected as the Architect of the Year.  Greg Allison of Stubbs Muldrow Herin Architects Inc., and Jay White of Liollio Architecture were also recognized in this category.

The Engineer of the Year winner was Greg Burbage of 4SE, Inc.  The others recognized in this category were Stephen West of Tobias-West Engineers and F. Steven Johnson, Jr. of George A. A. Johnson Jr. Inc.

 

Glasspro

Lee McManus has recently joined Glasspro, Inc. as an internal sales representative in th company’s call center serving all Glasspro locations.

McManus’ responsibilities include sales and job initiation, telephone follow-up and customer service.      

In addition, Ramsay Harris has recently joined Glasspro, Inc. as a customer service representative in the company’s Mount Pleasant branch.

Harris will be responsible for customer order processing job order follow-up, pricing and inventory, administrative and customer service.

Misty Chandler has recently joined Glasspro, Inc. as an internal sales representative in the company’s call center for all Glasspro locations.

Chandler will be responsible for sales and job initiation as well as telephone follow-up and customer service.     

MassMutual hires Hudock

General Agent’s Nick Gavalas and Brad Atkins hired Dustin Hudock as a financial services professional at The South Carolina Agency, a Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutal) general agency.

Hudock is the goalkeeper for the Charleston Battery soccer team.  He has been a professional soccer player for over 10 years.

Hudock received his Bachelor of Arts in Business from The University of Washington.

He specializes in Long Term Care Insurance, Disability Income Insurance, Life Insurance, and Retirement Planning Strategies.

The South Carolina Agency is located at 741 Johnnie Dodds Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.

Businesses recognized

Five area businesses have been recognized by the American Heart Association’s Start! Fit-Friendly Companies Program for promoting physical activity and health in the workplace – MUSC Health, Charleston Southern University, Roper St. Francis Healthcare, South Carolina Federal Credit Union, and the Town of Mount Pleasant.

Including the five Fit Friendly Companies above, the Lowcountry has a total of 11 Gold Level Fit Friendly Companies. The local Gold Level Fit Friendly Companies, not mentioned above, include The City of Charleston, Motley Rice LLC, First Federal, Trident Health System, Verizon Wireless, and William M. Bird Company. Awarded twice per year, “Gold-level” recognition is for companies that fulfill criteria such as offering employees physical activity support, increasing healthy eating options at work, promoting a wellness culture, as well as implementing at least six of the physical activities, two of the nutrition activities and one of the culture activities. The twelfth Fit Friendly Company in the Lowcountry is Vought Aircraft – the only local Platinum Level Fit Friendly Company.

National Leadership

Realtors from across the country celebrated as they completed the National Association of REALTORS®’ Leadership Academy during the 2009 Realtor Midyear Legislative meetings in Washington, D.C.  One of the 27 graduates was David Kent, ABRM of Mount Pleasant.  

Kent, who was recently named 2008 Realtor of the year, is co-owner and broker-in-charge of The Real Buyer’s Agent, Charleston’s first exclusive buyer’s agent brokerage.  In 2007, Kent served as a director for the National Association of REALTORS® as well as president of CTAR’s board of directors.  

He was also 2004 president of the CTAR Multiple Listing Service (MLS) and has held a board of directors position with the South Carolina Realtors Association (SCR) since 2003.    

 

Barfield named partner

Michael Barfield of Barnwell Whaley Patterson & Helms, LLC, a 70-year old Charleston-based law firm with a focus on complex litigation, has been named partner. Barfield, who previously served as special counsel for the firm, focuses his practice in the areas of professional negligence, construction litigation, commercial litigation, property related litigation, and personal injury.

Barfield is admitted to practice before all South Carolina courts, including the Court of Appeals, the State Supreme Court, and the Federal District Courts.

He is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, where he serves on the Lawyer’s Fund for Client Protection Committee, as well as the Charleston County Bar Association and the American Bar Association. A native of Charleston, Barfield earned his B.A. from Furman University and his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He joined Barnwell Whaley immediately upon graduating from law school.

 

Southeastern Fertility

Southeastern Fertility Center has added a new physician to their growing practice.

Reproductive Endocrinologist, Michael J. Slowey, MD joins the nationally recognized team, making him the third physician on staff at the prestigious fertility center.

Dr. Slowey received all three of his degrees (BA, MS, MD) from the University of Tennessee.

He then went on to complete his internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the US Naval Hospital in San Diego, Calif.

Dr. Slowey’s fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility was completed at the Michael Reese Hospital/ University of Illinois program in Chicago.

He comes from Reproductive Medicine Associates of New Jersey.
