Iacofano's Italian Bistro and Bar not only has great Italian food; it also has a cool little stage in the back corner. With a house sound system installed, maintained and operated by Comar Blanchard, it sounds great. An extra bonus is that it has remote speakers out front so that you enjoy the music at the outside tables as well.
With music scheduled Monday through Saturday, there is always a good reason to drop in for dinner and stay for the entertainment. And there is no cover charge.
Every Thursday, they have the Art & Music Series, where local artists display their works accompanied by local musicians. Mondays it's Kevin Church (with the exception of Superman Doug Walters on Monday, Sept. 13), Tuesdays Allyson Taylor, Wednesdays Keith Bruce and, this Friday night, The Wyatt Garey Band. This Saturday night, it's The Thunder Kings. Chef John Iacofano and booking guy Matt Rabon have laid out a great month of good food and great entertainment for you in this intimate and friendly venue. Oh yeah, it is my great pleasure to announce that Allnightkungfu's first full band show (with our new band mates, Dennis Brown on drums and John Poland handling the lead guitar) will be at Iacofano's Saturday, Sept. 18.
Encore Music has moved to a new location.
They are located in the Executive Center, 1233 Ben Sawyer Blvd. in Mount Pleasant. I got a chance recently to wander in there with my buddy Ranny Garey. While they were still working on the store downstairs, they had their merchandise upstairs in between the teaching rooms.
While it was a temporary setup, I was impressed by their wide selection of instrument, amps and accessories. That, along with knowledgeable and friendly staff, makes this a convenient locally owned and operated music store with very reasonable prices.
My pick for this column is The Louie D Project at Home Team BBQ on Sullivan's Island. Led by saxophone master Louis Dixson, you can expect high energy funk, soul , blues and jazz. Dixson surrounds himself with great musicians like guitarist (and photographer) J. R. Getches, whose talent and enthusiasm are both in abundance.
While the band is loaded with expert level musicians, make no mistake, when Louie D is in the room, there is a party going on. Check them out Thursday, Sept. 9.
And don't forget the weekly Barn Jam every Wednesday at Awendaw Green. Always free, the Barn Jam is a good place to catch great bands presenting original music.
Eddie White and his crew never fail to put together a great lineup each and every week.
On Wednesday, 9/15 you can see: Kootie and the Rollfish, Furtherroom, Open Arrow , along with Mingle and Calibrate.
You can find out more at www.awendawgreen.com
Until next time, be nice to each other and support live music.
