Kevin Church has been performing his rendition of country, rock and blues for over 15 years in the Ga., N.C., and S.C. areas. Some of his own compositions have made people laugh, cry, and kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. He stands out from the rest by taking songs and presenting them in their rawest form.

On his CD 'Let I Begin" , he easily shifts perspective from song to song. From the dark and dry spooky imagery of Cold Rain to the outright optimism and spiritual revelation of He Saved Me. From the climb from rock bottom in search of redemption of "The Road I'm On" to "Before It's Over With," which is a mental note to one's self to get moving, and to the grittier, hung-over feel of "Superman's Blues," Church weaves and unfolds his tales like a master storyteller. Emotional and genuine, these songs are easy to relate to with cool and original twists at every turn. You can find out more at: www.myspace.com/kevinchurch. But to get a good experience of his music you can see him this Friday for the Kevin Church CD Release Party at Iacofano's Italian Bar & Grill in the Moultrie Plaza on Coleman Blvd. Church will be performing with Ben Meyer and other guests during this event. Then he will be performing acoustic sets throughout the night. There will be CD signings and Kevin will have some of his other albums available.

"It makes you feel good inside." That's the catch phrase Nashville, Tennessee's Bonepony uses to describe what they do, and you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who has seen the band that didn't agree. They've been making people feel good inside for years as they criss-cross the nation, stopping in every big city and wide-spot-in-the-road town in America and bringing their unique brand of "Stomp Rock" to their audiences with all the fervor of a traveling tent revival mixed equally with arena-rock spectacle. "We play our hearts out" says Bonepony front man and founding member Scott Johnson. I don't know any other way to play these songs." The band, Johnson, Nicolas Nguyen and Kenny Wright, tour year-round and have developed a large and devoted following. The music itself is a melodious hybrid of rock and roll, folk, country, bluegrass and soul, driven home with foot-stomping four-on-the-floor beats crowbarred into four minute musical masterpieces that make it impossible to enjoy while standing still. As one writer scribed; "If Bonepony doesn't make you move you're made of lead!" The live show is more of the same, with the band tearing through their unscripted set with unconscious abandon; each band member seemingly playing a different instrument on every song and using every limb available to do so. " Check them out for yourself at the Windjammer on the Isle of Palms this Friday and Saturday night,. Tickets are $10 at the door and you can get them online as well. My pick show for the week: The Rev. Johnny Mac & The Booty Ranch at Home Team BBQ, Saturday night (9/25), "The Gospel According to The Rev. Dr. Johnny Mac." A Rev. Dr. Johnny Mac performance has been described as "A religious experience."

His voice emanates from a special place familiar to those who have experienced intense pain, sorrow, joy, and anger.

His guitar work is masterful, powerful, and intense. While I suppose his guitar work could be favorably compared with great guitarist such as Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jeff Beck and Johnny Winter, make no mistake he is definitely his own man with his own approach to a large body of both original songs as well as songs penned by others. Backed expertly by the talents of The BootyRanch (Chris Watts on bass and Stevie "Fatback" Kent on drums), He has the ability to take a song to a higher level and make you want more. Once again, I highly recommend this show. I know a great deal of folks in the East Cooper area know this, but if you love great rock and roll with a heavy dose of smokin' blues, this is the show for you this week!

Until next week, support live music and be nice to each other.
