Know when to personalize your business card
Wednesday, September 16, 2009
By Cynthia Grosso

As part of business card etiquette, it is important to know when to personalize your card. Do you know how to do this?

Knowing how to personalize your business card is important. This is when you write on the front (or back), a short note and sign just your first name signature. You can even put a slash through your name as printed on the card.

An example of this would be when you are sending a gift. For instance, I could write on my card “Thank you for your help, all the best,” Cindy.

Being aware of how to use your business card correctly is part of the savvy associated with doing business with style.

Taking a business card

You are seated in someone’s office for an interview; they have a business card holder with business cards in it on their desk. Can you just take one - isn’t that what they are there for?

If the interviewer’s business cards are in a holder on his desk, be sure and ask permission before you reach out and take one.

Whether it is an interview or simply in someone else’s office, etiquette suggests that you do not touch anything in their office without permission to do so.

Showing respect for others by not touching their stuff is a quiet but confident way to show respect for yourself as well.
