I have an associates degree
Saturday, July 24, 2010

An officer drove by a gas station and saw a man slumped over in his car and stopped to check on him. It turned out to be a drunk man trying to sleep it off, but that’s not allowed in Mount Pleasant so the officer stopped to have a little chat with him. The car was still running and in neutral and the window was down. The officer reached in to shake the man awake and saw a beer on the floorboard behind the passenger seat.

The driver woke up and the officer had him turn the car off. The officer asked him what he was doing and he said, “going where I’m going.”

The officer asked him if he had been drinking and he said he had. So at that point the officer told him to step out of the car. He had to lean on his car to keep from falling down. Then the officer started with the questions. He asked him what time it was and the driver said it was 2 p.m. However, it was almost 6 p.m. Then he asked him how much he had been drinking and he said he had only one beer. The officer asked him again and this time he said he had three or four. The officer then asked him if he knew his alphabet and he said “I have an associates degree you M F’er.” The officer asked him again if he knew his alphabet and he said, “a, b, c, d, a, b, c, d” and then stopped. Based on this, and the knowledge that this man had “an associates degree” he asked the man if he was drunk. The man responded, “I just wanted to sleep.”

With that said he was arrested for Public drunkenness. Before his car was towed the car was inventoried and the officer found eight 40 oz. beers.
