The winner of the Mount Pleasant Artists Guild scholarship for the 2010-2011 school year is Kaitlyn Battistelli, a recent graduate of the Charleston County School of the Arts.
Battistelli lives in Mount Pleasant and has attended the School of the Arts since the sixth grade. She also attended Belle Hall, Pinckney Elementary and Jennie Moore Elementary schools. She is the daughter of Kim Wiggins and Nick Battistelli.
Kaitlyn Battistelli's love for drawing and painting was apparent during the application process, which included an interview by a panel of Mount Pleasant Artists Guild members.
She will start at Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston in the fall. MassArt, as the college is nicknamed, is the first public art college in the United States and was founded in 1873. Students at the school choose a major during the sophomore year. Battistelli has expressed interest in painting and illustration, as well as working in museums. Kaitlyn Battistelli presented a portfolio of artwork to the guild members at the June 7 meeting.
