The following students are recipients of this year's CMC scholarships:
? Aaron Cates of Charleston, is a sophomore at Charleston Southern University department of music majoring in music education with a choral emphasis. At CSU, Cates is a tenor in<0x00A0>the Singing Buccaneers and Concert Singers, and recently joined the Palmetto Vocal Project, an acapella men's barbershop group in Mount Pleasant. Upon completion of school, Cates plans on looking for a job as a choir director for a few years, and then plans on attending graduate school to obtain his master's degree in choral conducting. After receiving his master's, Cates plans on returning to conducting choirs on either a high school or collegiate level.
? Robert "Tanner" Nix of Goose Creek, is a junior at Charleston Southern University department of music. He is a member of the Singing Buccaneers, Concert Singers, Charleston Southern Lyric theatre, and the Summit Church worship team. He has been in a number of musicals including "Hello Dolly" and "Little Shop of Horrors." After graduating he plans on teaching music in a public school and eventually getting his masters in administration. With a passion for music and the people of God, his purpose has been to use his talents to make Christ evident in every avenue of his life with an emphasis on teaching and leading worship.
? Jordan Dean Boyd of Clover, is a junior vocal performance and music theory/composition major at the College of Charleston. He is a member of the award-winning College of Charleston Concert Choir, Madrigal Singers, College of Charleston Opera Program and is a staff singer at Trinity United Methodist Church in downtown Charleston. Jordan recently appeared in the roles of Don Giovanni in the children's opera "The Three Little Pigs" and as Marco in both March and Piccolo Spoleto 2010 productions of Puccini's comic opera "Gianni Schicchi." He also participated in the Broadway revue: "I Can Do Without You: A Battle of the Sexes-Broadway Style." Boyd won first place the past two consecutive years in the freshmen men's division at the Mid-Atlantic region student auditions competition sponsored by National Association of Teachers of Singing.
? Garrett Campbell of Columbia, is a junior at the College of Charleston pursuing a BA in vocal performance. He is a 2009 alumnus of the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities. He is a member of the Concert Choir and the CofC Opera. Recently, Campbell has performed solos for Handel's "Messiah," Mozart's "Sparrow Mass," Haydn's "The Creation" and Britten's "Rejoice in the Lamb."
