Dottie Frank entertained a gathering of people at Jennie Moore Elementary, giving the community an opportunity to visit the school for which a character is named in her new release, Bulls Island. Last year, the Jennie Moore PTA sponsored a literacy event called "Turn Off the TV and Get Real."

As a part of the "Get Real" piece, Benton-Frank agreed to help make it more exciting for the students by naming a character in her next novel after the school's namesake. The "real" Jennie Moore was instrumental in establishing the school in the East Cooper area in the 1950s.

"Aunt Jennie," the character in  Frank's book, exemplifies the same devoted and caring nature as a loving aunt who comes to the aid of the main character in the book. Although Frank did not attend Jennie Moore Elementary or nearby Laing Middle School, she described the special place in her heart she holds for both schools, explaining that her father was an engineer for the Laing building.
