Renovation to porch at Pinckney site almost complete
Printer Friendly Version | 0 comment(s)
Sometime this week, the final phase of the re-doing of the front porch at the house is expected to be complete. “It’s time for an upgrade, said Mike Allen, park ranger. “We examined the porch and saw deficiencies in the structure.” According to Allen, it’s unknown as to whether or not the previous owner of the house did any work. “We want to ensure safety for the people and by doing this upgrade, we will be doing just that,” Allen said. The National Park Service acquired the property in 1990. It’s been open to the public since 1995. According to Allen, the house goes back to at least 1828. The main house on the farm was constructed in 1828, after Pinckney’s death. Over the years, work has been done on the attic, walls, ceiling and the roof as recent as a year or two ago.
