Golden Key International Honour Society inducts Maggie Rush Harrelson Maggie Rush Harrelson of Mount Pleasant has accepted membership in Golden Key International Honour Society and was honored during a recent induction ceremony at Clemson University. "It is only fitting that a top academic achiever like Maggie be recognized by Golden Key," said Alexander D. Perwich Golden Key's Chief Executive Officer. "Our members are inspired and motivated not only to achieve exceptional academic accomplishments, but also to make a positive impact on our world through the Society's commitment to service." Golden Key International Honour Society is the premier college/university honor society in the world, with more than 1.7 million members and 353 chapters in the United States, Australia, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. The global nonprofit organization provides academic recognition to college juniors and seniors in the top 15 percent of their class as well as leadership development opportunities, community service, career networking and scholarships. Membership into the Society is by invitation only, to students in all fields of study. In the fall semester of 2007, Harrelson was named to the dean's list, and this past spring was named to the president's list in the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences, maintaining a 4.0 GPA. A rising senior at Clemson University, Harrelson is a 2005 graduate of Wando High School. She is majoring in Environmental and Natural Resources with a concentration in Natural Resources and Economic Policy. This year, she was selected to serve as a mentor for a new program at Clemson called The Clemson FIRST program. This program was developed to help ensure success for students who are the first in their family to attend college. In addition, Harrelson is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and a second year member of the University Dance Company. Her parents are Jack and Leslie Harrelson of Mt. Pleasant. NSCS Megan Nicole Spradlin of Mount Pleasant has accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS). She will be honored during an Induction Convocation this fall on the campus of College of Charleston. "NSCS is more than just a symbol of academic achievement. Membership gives students access to a number of amazing benefits including career and networking resources, scholarships, travel, and service projects both on campus and in the community," said Stephen E. Loflin, NSCS executive director. NSCS is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is the nation's only interdisciplinary honors organization for first and second year college students. Membership is by invitation only, based on grade point average and class standing. NSCS has more than 650,000 lifetime members and 228 chapters in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Honor Graduate Lain Keith Robertson Riddle of Mount Pleasant, has been selected by the Faculty as the 2008 Honor Graduate for Charleston Collegiate School. He is the son of Rev. Dr. Keith L. Riddle of Charleston, S.C. and Ms. Cathy R. Riddle of Mount Pleasant, and the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hugh F. Robertson of Mount Pleasant, and the Late Harold J. Riddle of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Dorothy C. Riddle, currently of Myrtle Beach, S.C. Riddle serves as the secretary for the Student Government and is a member of the National Honor Society. He was elected captain of the varsity basketball team, which has reached the state championship finals the last three years. He received the Coach's Award at the end of the season. In January, both the Charleston Elks Club Lodge #242 and the Kiawah-Seabrook Island Exchange Club named him the Student of the Month, and the Kiawah-Seabrook club also awarded him a college scholarship. At the end of his junior year, Riddle received the Chemistry Merit Award, the Pre-Calculus Merit Award, the English III Award of Excellence and was selected to be a Junior Marshall at the Charleston Collegiate graduation. He was also selected to attend the 2007 session of the South Carolina Palmetto Boys State. He graduated with honors from Charleston Collegiate School on May 24 and will attend Appalachian State University.
