Denison University Allison Christine Shealy, daughter of Dr. Ralph and Lynn Shealy of Mount Pleasant, was among the 540 graduates awarded diplomas at Denison University’s 167th commencement held May 11. Shealy, a graduate of Academic Magnet High School, earned a bachelor of arts degree with a major in environmental studies. A dean’s list student, Shealy was a recipient of the Heritage Scholarship and a member of Psi Chi, the national psychology honorary. She completed an off-campus program, studying with the University of Minnesota in Kenya and was a member of the women’s rugby team.
VMI Alexander C. Brush, a rising senior from Mount Pleasant, majoring in modern languages & cultures and history, is among the 461 cadets who were recently named to the deans’ list at the Virginia Military Institute for the second semester of academic year 2007-08. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a cadet must have a term grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and no grade below C. Cadet Brush’s parents are Mrs. Brenda B. Parent and Mr. Anthony S. Brush.
Garritano rewarded Brittany Amber Garritano, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn R. Garritano of Mount Pleasant, was named to the dean’s list at Columbia College.
Clemson FIRST program Maggie Harrelson, a rising senior at Clemson University, is a 2005 graduate of Wando High School. She is majoring in environmental and natural resources with a concentration in natural resources and economic policy. This year, she was selected to serve as a mentor for a new program at Clemson called The Clemson FIRST program. This program was developed to help ensure success for students who are the first in their family to attend college. In addition, Harrelson is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and a second year member of the University Dance Company. Her parents are Jack and Leslie Harrelson of Mount Pleasant. Local Resident Graduates Erik Rahtjen, son of Mrs. Anne Rahtjen of Mount Pleasant, was among 237 seniors at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Connecticut to graduate at the school's 118th Commencement on June 8. Rahtjen, was also named to the spring term deans' list. Rahtjen will attend Emory University in the fall.
