Casting for Recovery (CFR), a National non-profit support and educational program for women who have or had breast cancer, will hold a weekend retreat at Bray's Island Plantation in Sheldon, S.C. on Oct. 28-30.
This retreat is open to women of all ages and in all stages of breast cancer treatment and recovery who live in South Carolina and is offered at no cost to the participants.
The Casting For Recovery program is unique in that the curriculum incorporates the elements of fly-fishing to promote physical and mental healing.
It is an opportunity to experience a true respite from familiar surroundings and everyday routines.
The casting motion provides a gentle exercise for joint and soft tissue stretching.
Fly-fishing provides stress-relief and promotes a sense of calm, while the social interactions offer women a chance to share, laugh and rejuvenate.
Since 1996, CFR has served over 4,500 breast cancer survivors nationwide, with the help of 1,500 medical, psychosocial, fly-fishing, and alumni volunteers.
Local volunteers staffing the Coastal SC retreat include Marsha Graham, Caroline Hassell and Sara Manucy from Mount Pleasant, Connie Duke, RN, MSN, Oncology Program Director at Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Audrey Graham from Beaufort and Sherri Hightower from Saint Helena.
The number of participants is limited.
The deadline for submitting your request to attend the retreat is Aug. 19.
Casting for Recovery is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization.
Casting for Recovery Coastal SC is grateful to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Brays Island Realty, The Charleston Angler, Roper St. Francis Healthcare, and many individuals and organizations for their generous support for our Bray's Island Retreat.
