Fishing Tournaments Lure Anglers to Edisto

This summer, anglers will descend upon Edisto, a quiet coastal island destination in the South Carolina Lowcountry, to demonstrate their fishing prowess. The first Edisto Beach Offshore Challenge, hosted by Buck’s Pizza, is scheduled for May 21-22, while the 22nd annual Edisto Marina Billfish Tournament, held as part of the annual S.C. Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series, will take place from July 28 – July 31. To wrap up the season, the Southern Kingfish Association (SKA) Division Three – Edisto Beach Buck’s Pizza King Mackerel Tournament will be held during the first weekend in September.

In late May, Buck’s Pizza will host the first Edisto Beach Offshore Challenge. Starting on Friday, May 21, with registration from 4 – 7:30 p.m., at Buck’s Pizza, located at 114A Jungle Road, this is a “no check-out” tournament with no boundaries. The only requirement is that all participants check in with the tournament director by 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, to weigh their fish. The entry fee is $300 per boat. Following the weigh-in, cash prizes will be awarded. The tournament pays one place for every 10 boats for a total payout of over $10,000 (based on 50 boats). For more information, visit www.edistobeachoffshorechallenge.com, or contact Darrin Moore at 803-622-7009 or darrin.moore@buckspizza.com

Next up, the 22nd annual Edisto Marina Billfish Tournament, held as part of the S.C. Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series, is scheduled for July 28 – July 31. The opening ceremony will be held on Wednesday, July 28, at the Edisto Marina on Edisto Beach, located at 3702 Docksite Road. The ceremony, which will begin at 7 p.m, will include the blessing of the fleet and dinner. The tournament itself will begin the next day with lines in at 8 a.m. Participants are given the option of fishing the best two out of three days. A weigh-in will be held at the close of Thursday and Friday from 4-8 p.m. On Saturday, the scales will close at 7 p.m. Live music, Lowcountry cooking, and awards will follow.

All ages are welcome to participate. To register for the tournament or to request more information, visit www.edistomarinagovcup.com or call Tournament Director Becca Smith at 407-463-2082.

As summer starts to wane in early September, Buck’s Pizza will host its second annual king mackerel tournament. The Edisto Beach Buck’s Pizza King Mackerel Tournament, a Southern Kingfish Association (SKA) division three, will be held September 3-4. Registration will take place between 5 and 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3, at Buck’s Pizza, located at 114A Jungle Road, on Edisto Beach. The entry fee is $300. A captain’s meeting will follow, starting at 7:30 p.m. The tournament itself will begin the next morning.

The weigh-in will take place at the Edisto Marina, which will feature live music all day long, arts and crafts, multiple vendors, and a shag contest. Following the weigh-in, an awards presentation will be held. The tournament awards 10 prizes, with first place paying over $10,000. In addition to the prizes awarded, anglers will compete for points to become eligible for the SKA National Tournament, held in Louisiana. The Edisto Beach Buck’s Pizza King Mackerel Tournament is the final leg of the South Carolina tournament series. Over 100 boats are expected to compete this year.
