High school sweethearts celebrate 50 years together

Penny and Robert Kiggans currently reside in Mount Pleasant.

High school sweethearts Robert and Penny Kiggans will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on July 25, 2015, at a dinner party with their family.

The couple met in their hometown of Wellsville, Ohio. They were married in 1965 at Wellsville Central Methodist Church shortly after Robert graduated from The Citadel where he received a commission in the Air Force. Robert served his country in both a uniform and civilian capacity as well as in the private sector upon his retirement from the Air Force as a lieutenant colonel, which has taken the couple all over the country.

Penny studied at John Robert Powers School in Pittsburgh and is a retired dance instructor and homemaker. They happily settled in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, in 1987 where they still reside today.

Robert and Penny have been blessed with three daughters, their husbands and children: Colleen and Paul Lawler of Mount Pleasant, Amy and Jeff McCarty of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Kelly and Scott Simon of Mount Pleasant. They have six grandchildren: Hannah, Kaleigh, Robert, Mia, Sloane and Cameron.
