01) Assault

Local authorities have recently issued an update on a reported assault involving the son of Mount Pleasant-based congressional candidate Catherine Templeton.

The April 13 incident, according to a Mount Pleasant Police Department incident report, saw Hampton Templeton, 18, allegedly engaging in an altercation with an 18-year-old Lucy Beckham High School peer at an Old Village house party.

Per a statement made by the victim’s mother two days after the alleged attack, Templeton mouthed a five-letter profanity which sparked the tussle.

The injured party, his mother reported, sustained two black eyes, multiple bruises and was later admitted to MUSC, as he also suffered from seizures resulting from the brawl. Police were further informed that the wounded party is seeking to press charges against the accused assailant.

In following up after documenting the initial report, police spoke to Templeton’s mother, who claimed that her son was not injured and also shared that the battered party was intoxicated at the time of the confrontation.

The congressional hopeful detailed that the victim was swinging his fists at the house gathering, with several schoolmates who intervened to calm him down.

She maintained that her son did not assault and/or injure anyone at the party.

Police are reportedly continuing to investigate this incident, with witnesses on both sides providing testimony on the case.
