Mount Pleasant's top football players, ages 12 and under, were collectively congratulated at the Jan. 10 Town Council meeting for recently winning the South Carolina Athletic Programs (SCAP) 12U championship by a 6-0 tally over the Greer All Stars.
Young athletes and coaches, led by Tyler Fiveash, were lauded for their efforts, which included playoff victories over Charleston and Myrtle Beach prior to Mount Pleasant's Dec. 9 grind-it-out championship triumph versus Greer in Florence.
"The two evenly-matched teams played hard to keep it to a scoreless game until the final minutes when Mount Pleasant scored a touchdown to take the lead 6-0," reported Councilmember Laura Hyatt during the formal recognition ceremony.
"With time still left on the clock, the Greer All Star team got the ball [in] their one last possession. But the Mount Pleasant defense stood strong and forced a fumble [in] the final seconds of the game to seal the win."
The victory, she noted, was a testament to the group's hard work, dedication, passion for the game and teamwork.
