The questionable antics of two drivers speeding past a N. Highway 17 construction zone on the evening of Oct. 10 caught the attention of local officers, who brought the speed merchants into custody without incident.
Two young men, ages 18 and 19 — driving a 2014 Ford Mustang and 2005 Audi A4 respectively — were witnessed by members of the Mount Pleasant Police Department at the stop bar of Hungry Neck Boulevard leading into N. Highway 17 in adjacent lanes before accelerating into a construction work area.
A corresponding police incident report states that responding officers activated their emergency equipment when viewing the motorists burn rubber down N. Highway 17 and turn right onto Venning Road.
A subsequent pursuit by local law enforcement resulted in both parties pulling into a ReFuel gas station, as cops cuffed both individuals and allowed them to contact their parents.
The males in question were issued citations and both vehicles were towed. The suspects were transported to the Charleston County Detention Center.
Speed readings weren't included in the police report.
