Brady Franey, an eighth-grade history and social studies teacher at Camp Road Middle School in Charleston received the 2024 Outstanding Teacher of American History Award given by the South Carolina State Society Daughters of the American Revolution (SCDAR). State Historian Nancy Herritage presented the award during the Awards Luncheon at the 128th State Conference recently held in Columbia, SC. Mr. Franey was recommended by his principal, Jaclyn Rowehl, and sponsored by the Fort Sullivan Chapter, NSDAR.

Franey’s dossier contained letters of recommendation and described the unique teaching methods he developed to provide his students with the tools and information needed to become productive and enlightened citizens. Franey’s enthusiasm for American History and for his students is readily conveyed and becomes evident in the classroom. He strives to incorporate literacy skills, study skills, and sound practices for retaining important information into his lessons. He believes “educators are obligated to shape young people into those who meet their civic duties with pride, who cherish their citizenship, and who embrace the responsibility of leading our nation into the future.”

The luncheon was attended by over three hundred South Carolina DAR members and guests. Franey was accompanied by his family and Principal Rowehl. The Fort Sullivan Chapter is honored to have sponsored Franey for this well-deserved recognition.
