01) Child Sex Abuse

A Mount Pleasant man's role in allegedly encouraging a minor to produce child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and also sending sexually explicit images to an underage individual landed Dillon Lewis Kroll in police custody on Aug. 7, according to South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department arrested Kroll, 25, on two charges linked to the attempted sexual exploitation of a minor.

The suspect's sexual exploitation of a minor charge is a felony offense punishable by up to 20 years of incarceration, per law enforcement. Kroll's additional formal accusation of attempted dissemination of obscene content to an individual under the age of 18 is a felony crime reportedly punishable by up to 10 years of detainment.

Kroll's case will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Attorney General's Office, who reminds the public that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.

The Attorney General's Office further notes that CSAM is a more accurate reflection of the materials used in these types of "heinous" and "abusive" transgressions. As a result, the term "pornography" has been replaced by CSAM since the former may imply that a minor was a consenting participant in the unlawful activity.
