Dealing with an illness as a child is tough. But sometimes options are available that can make dealing with that illness much easier.
Cameron is an 8-year-old boy in Mount Pleasant who was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes at the age of 3. Unfortunately, that's not all. Cameron has also been diagnosed with epilepsy. This, in combination with the diabetes, has made dealing with his illnesses very difficult.
Because of the severity of his illness, Cameron has been approved for a diabetic alert dog. "Lady" is being trained as I write this letter.
Diabetic alert dogs can sense, through smell, when blood sugar levels have reached a dangerous level. Clothes that Cameron wears when he has an episode are frozen and shipped to Lady so that she can recognize scents produced at the time of the attack.
Lady will become Cameron's constant caretaker and friend. Some may even call her his "guardian angel." Unfortunately she comes with a $10,000 price tag and health insurance won't pay a dime.
This is why Drs. Lucas and Josh Cole of Cole Chiropractic Clinic have decided to step in and help.
"To help Cameron's family raise the much needed $10,000 to purchase and train Lady, we have decided to donate our services in exchange for a donation for Cameron's cause," said Dr. Lucas Cole. Throughout the month of August they will be waiving their initial office visit charges for a $30.00 donation to go towards Lady.
"New patients that come into our clinic will receive a one on one consultation with one of the doctors, an evaluation of their condition, and x-rays if indicated," said Dr. Cole.
Their office is located in Station 41 behind the CVS at the corner of Hwy. 41 & 17. To set up your evaluation or to make a donation to Cameron's cause, call 843-416-8593. To learn more about Drs. Lucas and Josh Cole, you can visit their website at www.ChiropracticCharleston.com.
