Boating education opportunities

Printer Friendly Version  |  0 comment(s)

Seventy percent of recreational boating fatalities occur when the operator has not received boating safety instructions. Addressing this issue, the Charleston United States Power Squadron offers a boating course each Tuesday evening for all boaters at 1376 Orange Grove Rd from   6:30- 8:30 p.m.

The course covers the basics you need to know to safely and legally operate your boat, such as boating terminology, boat handling, legally required equipment, boating laws and regulations, right-of-way rules between boats, marine radio operations and more.

The course is meant to be of interest to the whole family, and encourages families to attend as a group.

In addition the course also includes a CD-ROM containing Maptech’s Chart Navigator computer program, allowing the student to learn about this new electronic navigation technology. The course is taught in four two-hour sections with the same sections repeated so the student can miss a section and pick up the one missed.

After completion students can apply for discounts on most boating insurance policies.
