Freedom begins with ‘Defiance'
Wednesday, February 03, 2010

Chabad of Charleston is proud to present a special evening with Zvi Bielski son of Zus Bielski, hero of the movie and real life story 'DEFIANCE'.   Freedom begins with an act of defiance.

During the darkest hours of WW ll three brothers achieved the impossible: they transformed persecution and violence into an incredible act of affirmation and survival.  Living in the Soviet Republic of Belorussia, Tuvia, Asael and Zus Bielski fled to the woods to escape the Nazi's systematic slaughter.  There they built an elaborate village for rescued Jews.  Their sole goal was to save their people. The Bielskis saved 1250 men, women and children, whose offspring today number close to 20,000 souls! This is the largest rescue of Jews during World War ll. The Bielskis never sought recognition for their actions but their story has now been told in the popular movie DEFIANCE.

Join us for this powerful evening and learn how through extreme bravery and sheer will, the brothers and the 1250 forest dwellers survived against all of the odds.

February 11, 2010 at 7 p.m at the Holiday Inn in Mt Pleasant at the base of the Ravenal Bridge, 250 Johnnie Dodds Blvd.

Couvert: adults, $10; students, free

What do people really think of having paid parking on Sullivan’s Island?
All for it, as long as residents get a sticker to put on their car to be exempt from it.

Why is this fair- I have been coming to the beach for years and I support your commercial district.

Sure, considering that the neighboring beaches, Folly and Isle of Palms, have paid parking. Sullivan’s can certainly use the revenue for the many projects they need completed, mainly installing the stormwater drainage.

What do you think of Sullivan's Island's new noise ordinance, restricting noise from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM?
Ridiculous -- what next, we will get fined to just walk in the commercial district?

All for it -- people cannot keep their windows open at night anymore because of the noise.

I am just going to go elsewhere to make some noise!
