Local oral surgeon to run for MP Town Council
Monday, August 17, 2009

Craig H. Rhyne, Jr., DMD, (35) a native of Mount Pleasant announced his candidacy for Mount Pleasant Town Council.  He was raised in Mount Pleasant and went to Mount Pleasant Academy, Moultrie Middle School, and Wando High School, graduating in 1992.  He is a 1996 Citadel graduate and finished MUSC before becoming an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in the U.S. Army.

After serving as a facial trauma and reconstructive surgeon and being honorably discharged as a Major in 2008, he chose to return home and begin his private practice and raise his family.

Craig is married to Jennifer Neal Rhyne, from Columbia, S.C .a graduate of both Wofford College and MUSC.  They have three children:  Harding (7), William (4), and Charlotte (2).  Harding and William are enrolled at James B. Edwards Elementary School.  The family are active members of Hibben United Methodist Church.

Rhyne is a partner and small business owner of Palmetto Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.  In addition, he chairs the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for Roper and St. Francis Hospitals.  He is interested in helping Mount Pleasant grow in a fiscally responsible way while maintaining all of the great qualities that he grew to love and wants his family to enjoy.

As a young and energetic member of a team of town councilpersons, he looks forward to finding solutions to alleviate Mount Pleasant’s traffic problems, resolving infrastructure development issues, promoting family oriented green spaces, and minimizing property taxes.

Rhyne feels that a published list of priorities for Mount Pleasant should be on the Council’s agenda.  Overall, he has a vested interest to continue attracting business growth and development to support our community and local economy.

Rhyne is seeking the support of local businesses and endorsement of civic and neighborhood groups to win a seat on Mount Pleasant Town Council so that he can bring youthful experience and conservative, business-minded efficiency to the table.

His goal is to continue Mount Pleasant’s development as a premier community and correct some of the inefficiencies inherent in local government.
