Memorial Waterfront Park at 8:30 p.m. Saturday before the "Movie at the
Park," scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.
The first 500 people to attend will receive T-shirts with the new town
logo. The celebration includes a jump castle and slide, as well as a
Fire Department trailer that simulates what it's like to be in a house
fire and provides information on how to respond.
Short films about the town's effort to win the All-America City award
will be shown, followed by a feature film. A spokesman said the name of
the film, which is well-known, cannot be put in the newspaper but is
available at the town website, www.townofmountpleasant.com.
The town won the All-America City designation in June during a
competition in Kansas City, Mo. The National Civic League bestows the
honor, which Charleston has received in years past. It is designated by
red, white and blue signs that look like a flag and declare that a burg
is an "All-America City."
Mount Pleasant won another honor recently when Money magazine named it
one of the best small American cities to call home in its annual list.
The magazine ranked towns based on a number of factors, including
economics, school performance and crime rates.
