Patriots Point Dev. Authority collects items to send military overseas
Wednesday, February 03, 2010

'We LOVE our Military' campaign provides people of the Lowcountry a way to give back to those who sacrifice so much

Patriots Point Development Authority (PPDA) will be gathering items from now through the end of February to send to deployed military to provide them a few of the luxuries from home they wouldn't otherwise receive.

To show how much 'We LOVE our Military,' PPDA has partnered with the American Red Cross, WCBD News 2 and Clear Channel to collect items to be distributed to military units that are currently deployed overseas. From now until February 28, anyone can donate any number of items from an approved list (found here) at one of the four drop-off locations to demonstrate their appreciation:

•American Red Cross Donation Center at 200 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard in West Ashley

• American Red Cross Donation Centers at 920 Houston Northcutt Boulevard in Mount Pleasant

• The Ship Store at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum

•Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum's Visitor's Parking Lot Gate House

The donation of an approved item at Patriots Point's Gate House can be made in lieu of the $3 parking fee

PPDA will be collecting donations throughout the coming weeks.

Visit www.PatriotsPoint.org for a full list.

What do people really think of having paid parking on Sullivan’s Island?
All for it, as long as residents get a sticker to put on their car to be exempt from it.

Why is this fair- I have been coming to the beach for years and I support your commercial district.

Sure, considering that the neighboring beaches, Folly and Isle of Palms, have paid parking. Sullivan’s can certainly use the revenue for the many projects they need completed, mainly installing the stormwater drainage.

What do you think of Sullivan's Island's new noise ordinance, restricting noise from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM?
Ridiculous -- what next, we will get fined to just walk in the commercial district?

All for it -- people cannot keep their windows open at night anymore because of the noise.

I am just going to go elsewhere to make some noise!
