Volleyball Tournament for Breast Cancer Research

Event Host:  James Island Charter High School Varsity Volleyball

Opponent: Wando High School Varsity Volleyball and West Ashley High School Varsity Volleyball

Event Date:  Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Event Time:  5:30 p.m.

Location:  James Island Charter High School – 1000 Ft. Johnson Road

This fall 2009, thousands of teams from around the country will be participating in the Dig Pink National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally.  High School and College teams will be promoting Breast health education in the community as well as raising funds to help eradicate Breast Cancer.

Dig Pink attendees will watch the girls compete on the court while contributing to breast health awareness by making a statement and wearing something PINK in the stands. Admission will be $5 and will be donated for Breast Cancer Research.  Coach Melissa Frasier of James Island Charter High School, Coach Alexis Glover of Wando High School and Coach Christy Jickling of West Ashley High School are all encouraging their athletes to get involved in the community and support various organizations relevant to the students.  The coaches of all three varsity volleyball teams thought it was extremely significant to their female volleyball players to support and become more educated about Breast Cancer research.

The proceeds from all donations will benefit the Side-Out Foundation, a national 501(c)(3) located in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area.

For more information about the event, please contact Coach Melissa Frasier at Melissa_frasier@charleston.k12.sc.us or 843.270.8437

What do people really think of having paid parking on Sullivan’s Island?
All for it, as long as residents get a sticker to put on their car to be exempt from it.

Why is this fair- I have been coming to the beach for years and I support your commercial district.

Sure, considering that the neighboring beaches, Folly and Isle of Palms, have paid parking. Sullivan’s can certainly use the revenue for the many projects they need completed, mainly installing the stormwater drainage.

What do you think of Sullivan's Island's new noise ordinance, restricting noise from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM?
Ridiculous -- what next, we will get fined to just walk in the commercial district?

All for it -- people cannot keep their windows open at night anymore because of the noise.

I am just going to go elsewhere to make some noise!
