Walk, Run or Race for a Cure at the 17th Annual Susan G. Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure®
Friday, August 27, 2010

More than 10,000 people of all ages are expected to gather on Saturday, October 16, at Family Circle Cup Stadium on Daniel Island for the 17th Annual Susan G. Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure® presented by BI-LO Charities. The Lowcountry continues to demonstrate that even in the most challenging of economic times, their generosity and support for others is heartfelt and unwavering. Nowhere do we feel a more powerful sense of hope, and determined spirit to end breast cancer forever, than at the Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure. More than 300 local businesses have come together to help support this year’s Race. With new, creative ways to get involved, such as the Power of 10 and Sleep in for the Cure, organizers expect this Race to be the most successful one yet.

You don’t have to be a runner or walker to support Komen’s mission to end breast cancer forever. This year’s Race includes additional ways to participate. Sleep in for the Cure® allows everyone the opportunity to participate in the Race, even if they are unable to be there on the day of the event. Participants can register and will receive an official Race T-shirt. For participants that are up for a fund-raising challenge, there is the Power of 10 challenge that helps to raise additional funds to fight breast cancer by collecting tax-deductible donations from family, friends and colleagues to sponsor them in the Race. If each Race participant asked just 10 friends for a small donation of only $10, we could raise $1 million.

The Race is one of the nation's top 5K races and would not be possible without the 75,000+ volunteers and respective race committees that help put this event together. The local Race is South Carolina’s largest 5K race. “We are so excited about the 2010 Race and hope you will join us this year in our fight against breast cancer,” says Lauren Mele, race chair.  “Together, we can help put an end to this life-threatening disease forever.”
