Wando Championship Weekend
Wednesday, November 11, 2009

The Wando Marching Band took home their fifth state title in the South Carolina State 5A Championship Competition last Saturday.
The Wando Marching Band participated in the South Carolina State 5A Championship Competition at South Carolina State in Orangeburg Saturday. Fourteen bands participated in the competition. Wando won the Lower State Championship in the first competition and was called back for the finals. Eight bands competed in finals, with  Wando coming away the winners of the 2009 State Marching Band Championship.

“I am very proud of our students for their performance on Saturday night.  They played with emotion and it was by far the best performance of the year,” said Wando Band Director Scott Rush. “This represents the fifth consecutive year that the program has finished as state champions in 5A.  The 5A classification makes up the largest sixteen schools in the state of South Carolina.”

The previous  weekend the Wando Band competed at Super Regionals in Atlanta in the Georgia Dome. They won their division and finished fourth overall. The Wando High School Marching Band will compete with nearly 90 other bands in the Bands of America Grand National Championships Nov. 12-14. Wando is scheduled to perform in preliminary competition at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12  at Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis.

What do people really think of having paid parking on Sullivan’s Island?
All for it, as long as residents get a sticker to put on their car to be exempt from it.

Why is this fair- I have been coming to the beach for years and I support your commercial district.

Sure, considering that the neighboring beaches, Folly and Isle of Palms, have paid parking. Sullivan’s can certainly use the revenue for the many projects they need completed, mainly installing the stormwater drainage.

What do you think of Sullivan's Island's new noise ordinance, restricting noise from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM?
Ridiculous -- what next, we will get fined to just walk in the commercial district?

All for it -- people cannot keep their windows open at night anymore because of the noise.

I am just going to go elsewhere to make some noise!
