Ashley M. Dorsey

Ashley Dorsey has been named the new principal of Laurel Hill Primary School, which serves grades K-2. Dorsey has served as the assistant principal at Stiles Point Elementary on James Island since July 2013.

Dorsey began her career in 2004 as a fifth grade talent development teacher at Tuckaseegee Elementary in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. While at Tuckaseegee, Dorsey served as PTA Secretary, Grade Level Chair, advised two student organizations, and developed and coordinated effective academic improvement programs and remedial reading lessons for after school district programs. In 2006, Dorsey joined CCSD as an upper elementary teacher at Sullivan’s Island Elementary. While in this position, she served on the school’s Leadership Team, Safety Team, Student Council Association, School Improvement Council, and Wellness Team. She also served as the Safe-T Evaluator, Director of Camp Intervention, and Instructional Resource Teacher.

Six years later, Dorsey was promoted to Partial Magnet Coordinator with the responsibility of providing high quality inquiry-based science experiments to students in all grade levels, developing partnerships with science, math, and environmental agencies to enrich curriculum, recruiting students for the magnet program, analyzing PASS and VCG data, and serving as proxy when the principal was out of the building. As assistant principal at another CCSD elementary school, she implemented the school’s academic goals in the school renewal plans, assisted with hiring for vacant positions, participated in budget and allocation planning, managed the proactive positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) model, participated in teacher observations using the Classroom Observation Tool (COT), and administered gifted and talented and MAP testing.

Dorsey holds a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Clemson University and a K-12 Academically-Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Certification from the University of Virginia. She also holds a Masters of Education in educational leadership from the The Citadel. Dorsey was recently a participant in Charleston County’s 2014-2015 Principals for Tomorrow Program.
