NORTH CHARLESTON — Heriberto Martinez-Martinez was asleep in his bedroom when a bullet tore through his wall, caught him in the right side of his face, and killed him.

Police first responded to a home on Stall Road in North Charleston just before 10 p.m. on April 25 in reference to gunshots. Upon arrival, several victims said an armed robbery had occurred and suspects had fled on foot toward Fassitt Road, an incident report released April 29 stated.

Officers detained several individuals at a residence one victim believed the suspects entered, but the people were later cleared of being involved in the robbery.

While checking the scene for property damage, officers found four 9 mm shell casings at the scene and a stray bullet hole in another residence.

They entered the home to check on its residents, only to find the back bedroom door locked. After knocking loudly several times and not hearing any movement inside, officers forced entry and found the man unresponsive.

The 37-year-old who had no involvement in the robbery died in his bed. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Detectives arrested two people in connection with the shooting on April 29.

22-year old Kobe Javon Bryant and 19-year-old Triston Robertson have been charged with murder, according to a statement from the department. Additional charges are pending.

This is the seventh homicide North Charleston police have investigated in 2024, according to data The Post and Courier tracks. About 80 people were killed in the tri-county area in 2023.
