Cynthia Moorhead McNair

We celebrate the life of Cynthia Moorhead McNair who joined our Lord on Friday, August 26, 2011. Those wishing to celebrate Cynthia's life were invited to the home of David and Merrie McNair, 638 Hobcaw Bluff Drive, Mount Pleasant, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 28th. A service of thanksgiving for the life of Cynthia was held in the Historic Church at Christ Episcopal Church in Mount Pleasant on Monday, August 29. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.

Born on June 28, 1931, Cynthia spent her childhood in Brooklyn, New York with her loving parents, Anna T. and William H. Moorhead. She attended the Woodward School and Packer Collegiate Institute and then headed south to Virginia where she graduated from Sweet Briar College, beginning her life of 'southern living.' Along with numerous, lifelong friends at Sweet Briar, she also met Norman H. McNair, and they were married at the Second Presbyterian Church, New York City on June 18, 1954.

While living in Louisville, KY, Nashville, TN, and San Antonio, TX, Cynthia was a member of The Junior League for over 55 years. No matter the place called home, she served as an active volunteer in her church and community. She spent years as a counselor for the Dede Wallace Center in Nashville; and extended her love of reading to read for the blind via the local NPR stations, an avocation that led to the recording of numerous TV and radio commercials. She has been a life-long servant with Meals-On-Wheels with her husband in Louisville, Nashville, San Antonio and most recently Mount Pleasant. Cynthia had a deep love for Orr's Island, Maine, where she spent time most every summer for 80 years. Days at the 'Back Shore,' clambakes on the ragged rocks, sailing the bays, tennis and family fun were among her most treasured memories. This love of Orr's Island is shared by her husband, children, and grandchildren. Following a memorial service in Mount Pleasant, Cynthia's ashes will be placed in the Memorial Garden at All Saint's Chapel, Orr's Island.

Cynthia is survived by her husband Norman, her three sons, Gregory Gaut McNair and his wife Ann in Nashville, TN; Michael Moorhead McNair and his wife Vicky in Murfreesboro, TN; David Hamilton McNair and his wife Merrie in Mount Pleasant, SC., and her brother, William Moorhead and his wife Alice. She has eight grandchildren; Hunter, Caroline, Austin, Tyler (and his wife Julie), Chase, Neill, Davis and Locke; and two great grandsons, Keegan and Craig.

In lieu of flowers please make contributions to Christ Church, 2304 Hwy 17 North, Mount. Pleasant 29466; or Hospice of Charleston Foundation, 676 Wando Park Blvd, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.
