Daniel George Schram

Daniel George Schram, 91, husband of Lucille Main Schram, of Mt. Pleasant, SC passed away, Saturday, July 4, 2009.  The funeral service was held at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, July 7, 2009. Arrangements by J Henry Stuhr. The family received friends at J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel on Monday, July 6, 2009.

Dan was born February 23, 1918 in New Leipzig, ND, one of 13 children of Jacob and Maria Bierwagen Schram. Growing up on a farm the children were encouraged to play an instrument; Dan played the violin and began singing at an early age. He was part of a quartet that performed on the radio and visited area churches in Bismarck, ND. During the depression he worked in a forestry project in a CCC program located in Montana. He was employed in the North Dakota Attorney General’s office when he was drafted in the US Army during WWII and soon found himself parachuting into New Guinea where he spent the next four years. After the war his uncle enticed him to Charleston where they owned and operated Schram & Curry automobile dealership on King St. selling Plymouths, DeSotas and Studebakers. Dan served an apprenticeship at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and retired as an inspector specialist. He began a second career and later retired from Cummins Diesel.

He was an active member of the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church and sang in the Sage choir. Dan was an avid sportsman; he coached little league baseball and enjoyed playing golf. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Mt. Pleasant and the Scottish Rite.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lucille Main Schram and two sons, Daniel Schram, Jr. and William M. Schram (Mary); four grandchildren, Justin Schram, Trey Schram (Anita), Katherine Schram, and Emily Schram; two great grandchildren: Dylan and Hunter Schram; two brothers, Ruben Ray Schramm and Samuel Schram; two sisters, Martha Kallis and Mollie Hintz. He was preceded in death by four brothers, John Schramm, Frederick Schramm, Gottlieb Schramm, and Leo Schramm and four sisters, Othelia S. Thom, Rosina Schramm, Hilda S. Stelter and Anne S. Sabado.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, 302 Hibben St., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 or to the Hospice of Charleston Center, 676 Wando Park Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. A memorial message may be written to the family by visiting www.jhenrystuhr.com.
