Greg Keating, general manager and vice president of club operations for the Daniel Island Club, was named one of the golf industry's "Most Admired Operators" by Golf Inc., a trade magazine covering golf development and operations.
Keating, who is responsible for operations at the 780-member private club, has overseen consistent growth in the club's membership, revenues and facilities since coming to Daniel Island in 2002. In addition to a second 18-hole golf course and family tees that encourage children and families to play together, Keating in recent years has overseen the expansion of the clubhouse and tennis facilities and added a fitness center and poolside cabana to the club's amenities.
Keating said his philosophy is to lead by example and to hire engaging employees who enjoy serving others.
"We want our members to feel like they're on vacation all the time," he said. "I talk to the groundskeepers about getting down off their mowers and helping members look for lost golf balls."
Keating came to Daniel Island after spending 10 years as a teaching and playing professional at clubs in the Boston area.
For its 2008 "Most Admired" list, Golf Inc. sought recommendations from more than 100 industry insiders. A committee of golf executives (developers, management company officials, consultants and brokers) made the final selections that include course owners, general managers, head golf professionals and superintendents.
