Charity tennis Pro/Am slated for March 20-21
Tuesday, March 02, 2010

The I'On Club will host the SunTrust "Hits for HALOS" Charity Tennis Pro/Am March 20-21. Community members are welcome to join the festivities with free admission. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the HALOS Summer Camp Program for abused and neglected children in Charleston County.

The tennis tournament will couple 28 amateur players with a rotation of 14 pros from around the Southeast for 10 round-robin sets followed by a playoff. The festivities will continue Saturday after the tournament with a Wine Tasting, Silent Auction, and spectator party. The event will also feature live music by the local band "Chewbacca."

In addition to silent auction donations, financial contributions supporting this cause are welcome. Corporate sponsorships for the event are also available.

The schedule for "Hits for HALOS" is as follows:

Saturday, March 20

9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Round Robin Pro/Am Tennis Tournament

5-8 p.m. Pro Exhibition and Spectator Party

5-8 p.m. Wine Tasting and Silent Auction

Sunday, March 21

9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Round Robin Pro/Am Tennis Tournament

2-5 p.m. Tournament Playoff and Happy Hour

The proceeds from "Hits for HALOS" will benefit the HALOS Summer Camp Program, which provides financial assistance for abused and neglected children in the Charleston area to attend a local summer camp—typically a public recreation, arts, sports, or music day camp. Children may also attend Youth Summer Leadership Programs or visit colleges.

Each summer, HALOS makes camp and other activities available to at least 160 children, all of whom have histories of maltreatment and are involved with the Charleston County and Berkeley County Department of Social Services. Without the financial support of HALOS, these opportunities would not be available to these children in need.

HALOS Executive Director Kim Clifton said, "The children who attend gain important life skills and enjoy fun during their out of school times, but it also means that caregivers can continue working and that children are in safe care.

"The costs of camp and other summer activities often mean that the kids who need the experiences the most—those who have been abused or neglected—do not have access."
