ServiceMaster of Charleston is hosting Victory Junction Night at the RiverDogs Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 5 p.m. Game time is at 7:05 p.m. The public is invited to join ServiceMaster before the baseball game for a cookout and concert at Brittlebank Park. Donations will be accepted at the cookout and game to send Charleston area kids selected by MUSC to Victory Junction.
Tickets to the baseball game will be given out to the first 1,000 people that come to the cookout. Kyle Petty will be signing autographs and taking pictures. ServiceMaster employees will be grilling hot dogs, Charleston favorite Triple Lindy will provide the live music, and you can enter the NASCAR Tire Changer Challenge to win great prizes.
In addition, the Adam Petty NASCAR Showcar, The Clean Machine, and Victory Junction Pickup donated by Taylor Swift will be on hand.
Built in honor of Adam Petty, Victory Junction provides life-changing experiences for kids with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses.
According to Lawton Hayes, owner of ServiceMaster of Charleston, they became involved with Victory Junction last year when Kyle and Lawton played a round of golf while he was in Charleston. "I had heard of the camp and looked online and was impressed with the mission and purpose of the camp," he said.
Lawton and his wife Nancy got to visit camp in early December and saw how vital a gap it filled in these special children that cannot go to any other summer camps. "We do several community events with the Riverdogs and Harold Craw, Dave Echols and I put our heads together about the Victory campaign and Victory Junction Night. The Victory campaign is a year long commitment and promotion we are doing together. For every "Victory" the Riverdogs have, ServiceMaster of Charleston and the Riverdogs are donating $50 each to send a Charleston Kid to camp next year. We will present a check on the 31st to Kyle and the Victory Junction staff for the wins this season. It costs $2,500 to send a kid to camp and hopefully this will send three to four kids to camp next year," said Hayes.
Victory Junction Night at the Riverdogs with Kyle Petty is a one night event to bring awareness to the mission of the camp and how it changes the lives of the campers.
It is a medically supervised camp for kids with 23 chronic illnesses or conditions that can not attend any other camps. Visit www.servicemasterofcharleston.com to learn more about the event and Victory Junction camp.
