The South Carolina USA Track & Field Association held the 2008 annual Meeting this past Saturday on the Campus of USC Upstate. Three Presidential Awards were given by SC USATF President Jimmy Stephens and four people were inducted into the SC USATF Hall of Fame. Presidential Awards: •John Olson The webmaster for SCrunners.com. His efforts have been tremendous in helping promote the sport of Track & Field / Cross Country. Olson is a huge asset to the sport and has instrumental in the growth of Track & Field / Cross Country in South Carolina. •Town of Mount Pleasant The Town of Mount Pleasant was the first community in the State of South Carolina to step up and build a track and field facility for community and recreation department use. They are about to open one of the finest track and field facilities in the state. The Town of Mount Pleasant Recreation Department also has one of the strongest and largest track clubs in the state. •City of Myrtle Beach The City of Myrtle Beach has stepped up and built a new track & field facility for Myrtle Beach High School, community and recreation use. It is an immaculate facility and will play host too several meets this spring. They are currently establishing a youth track & field program. Hall of Fame: •Bob Jenkins Coach Jenkins began coaching in 1957. He coached at York High, Rock Hill High, Northwestern High and South Point High. He coached at Northwestern High from 1971 until his retirement in 1995. While at NW his track teams won three state championships and were runner-up twice. His cross country teams at Northwestern won three state championships and were runner-up once. Now he has come out of retirement and working with the program at South Point High School. He was selected as National Track Coach of the Year and is the founding member of SCTCCCA. He served as president of SCTCCCA from 1974-78 and 1992-95. Coach Jenkins was also instrumental in the bringing the Region III Meet to Rock Hill this past year. •Kwabene Brown “KB” Brown is a coach for the Quickstrider Track Club. He has discovered some of the best talent in the state including Jasmin Stowers, last years Nike Outdoor Nationals 100m Hurdle Champion. Coach Brown has also served as a high school coach at Westside High School. KB has had a huge impact on hundreds of kids in South Carolina. •Mike Moore Coach Moore is a fixture in the high school coaching community. Coach Moore has been a head track and cross country coach for 27 years - eight at Orangeburg-Wilkinson and the remaining at Irmo High. At O-W was 52-4 with six Region titles and one state runner-up. At Irmo - Girl's XC has six Region and two state runner-ups. Boy's XC has 14 Region, four state Runner-ups and two state championships. Coach Moore’s girl's track has 12 Region, 1 state runner-up and two state championships; boy's track has four Region championships and a state runner-up. He served as president and vice president of SCTCCCA. During presidency, he established the Coaches Classic for XC and Track. He was also instrumental in developing Constitution for SCTCCCA and Co-coach of first Shrine Bowl Run. •Mickey McCauley McCauley is a long time USATF Official. He has served as president of the Greenville Track Club and serves as Meet Director for the Blue Shoes events at Furman University. He currently works in the F.I.R.S.T. program at Furman University. He has committed a huge amount of time to the sport and has been a strong support of USATF for many years.
