01) Rep. Nancy Mace

Rep. Nancy Mace

As the US Rep for South Carolina's 1st congressional district since 2021, incumbent Nancy Mace is running for reelection as a member of the Republican Party. The 46-year-old graduate of The Citadel recently answered a few questions sent to her by the Moultrie News. Each of the five declared candidates were asked to respond to the same four questions.

Moultrie News: Briefly tell us about your background and what are your greatest past accomplishments that make you worthy of your candidacy?

NM: Mace, raised in the Lowcountry as the daughter of a retired Army General and school teacher, broke barriers by becoming the first woman to graduate from The Citadel. Her tenure in the South Carolina State House was marked by fiscal conservatism, earning her the Taxpayer Hero Award for her commitment to responsible spending. In Congress, Mace remains an independent voice with a prolific legislative record, prioritizing the needs of the Lowcountry over partisan politics while drafting and filing numerous bills this year alone.

MN: How do we keep the US and Lowcountry economies thriving and viable? What’s working and what needs to be rectified?

NM: Lowcountry families can't afford Bidenomics and high inflation, with gas prices up 53 percent. Despite these challenges, some in Congress prioritize raising the national debt over addressing the needs of American families. Mace advocates for reduced spending, tax cuts and a balanced budget to combat inflation. Mace supports vital industries like shrimping and fishing through initiatives like the Save our Shrimpers Act and recently secured permits from the Army Corps of Engineers to save 1,000 jobs and expedite infrastructure projects, consistently putting the Lowcountry first.

MN: What are your views on the US border crisis?

NM: Mace has a strong track record of securing the southern border through votes on bills like the End the Border Catastrophe Act and the Secure the Border Act (HR2). She has introduced legislation to reinforce Trump's border policies, including the Northern Triangle Asylum Cooperative Agreement Reimplementation Act. In contrast, the Left is prepared to leave the border wide open, endorsing President Biden's policies on the border.

MN: What unique qualities do you bring to the table that the others may not be offering?

NM: In 2020, Mace demonstrated as the sole Republican capable of reclaiming this swing district by steadfastly putting the needs of the Lowcountry first, well ahead of DC politics. Her victory signified not just a gain in majority, but a deep commitment to delivering tangible outcomes and maintaining local values of fiscal conservatism and independence. Throughout her tenure, she has consistently opposed the DC establishment, prioritizing the interests and welfare of the Lowcountry as she works to strengthen border security and combat high inflation.
