Josiah James was one of the few elite players not draped in Under Armour gear at the UAA Challenge last month in Atlanta. He was still one of the first players the shoe company’s reps sought out after the tournament.

Following a commanding performance in the AAU competition, James was personally offered an invitation to the fifth annual SC30 Select Camp. The Under Armour showcase, headlined by two-time NBA MVP Steph Curry, brings together 26 of the top high school guards in the nation for a four-day camp that tips off Aug. 5 in San Francisco.

James has become one of the hottest names on the summer circuit, regularly attracting an elite lineup of the most respected coaches in college basketball to his games. The 6-foot-6, five-star guard, who plays with TMP in the summers and has won three state championships at Porter-Gaud, is ranked as the No.1 point guard in the nation.

He recently cut his list of more than 30 college offers down to a group of nine that includes Arizona, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Kansas, Michigan State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia — all of which visited him during the UAA Challenge.

James expects to trim the nine potential suitors down to a final group of five in the next couple weeks before beginning his official visits. He plans to visit Duke Aug. 11-12.

James flies out for the SC30 Select Camp on Friday. The all-expense paid trip covers his high school and AAU coaches as well. James will receive instruction and evaluation from a lineup of well-respected coaches that includes Curry, who’s been known to join scrimmages with campers in the past.

Players will also spend time in the community, helping to upgrade the computer lab at the Bushrod Community Center in Oakland. The SC30 Select Camp also for the first time includes two female prospects among its list of attendees.

Last year, the SC30 Select Camp ended with its first Select HS Showcase in San Francisco’s Kezar Pavilion. The all-star game was broadcast on ESPNU.
