Charleston County School District (CCSD) announced LaShawna Rivers as the director of instructional programs. Rivers joined the learning services team beginning in the 2018-19 school year as the leader of the district’s Virtual Schools program. Rivers has been serving as the interim director of Instructional Programs for past several months.

Rivers brings 18 years of diverse experiences developing and implementing programs to increase student academic success to the role. Rivers began her career in 1990 as a CCSD classroom teacher at R.D. Schroder Middle School in Hollywood. Her professional experiences include serving as a teacher specialist, Title I facilitator, curriculum specialist, assistant principal, principal and as the director of curriculum and instruction for Dorchester School District Four.

Rivers earned a bachelor of science in secondary education from Georgia Southern University, a master of education in student diversity from Southern Wesleyan University, an education specialist degree from Cambridge College and is a doctoral candidate at Capella University (anticipated 2020).
