Over the past month, 500-plus freshmen committed poems to memory and competed against each other for the title of Wando Poetry Out Loud Freshman Champ. The staff of the Wando Freshman Academy is thankful for the support shown toward this year’s Poetry Out Loud Honors English 1 Competition.
“It is such a busy time of the year, and you all played a part to help these young men and women face their fears, take the stage, and perform poetry,” said Patrick Martin, a teacher in Wando High School’s English Department.
Martin also thanked the judges for this year’s competition. Emilie Woodie, Marcus Amaker and Katie Givens served as judges. Tammy Watkins served as the accuracy judge. The event prompter was Lucye Magill.
