The Town of Mount Pleasant will celebrate its 15th annual Sweetgrass Festival on Saturday, July 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park.

The festival is designed to promote and bring attention to the contributions of the Gullah people’s history, culture, traditions and their Sweetgrass basket art form that originated in Mount Pleasant. A significant portion of Mount Pleasant Highway 17 has been designated by S.C. Department of Transportation as the Sweetgrass Basket Makers Highway.

The event will offer free admission to all ages and provide an opportunity for local basket makers to showcase, promote and market their Sweetgrass merchandise to locals as well as cultural tourists from around the country.
