On Thursday, May 9, law enforcement officers from around the Lowcountry began a 130-mile relay for the annual Special Olympics Flame of Hope. Starting from the beach at Sullivan’s Island’s Station 22½ Street, officers escorted the torch to the steps of the Statehouse in Columbia.
This relay represents the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics continued commitment to increase awareness, raise funds, and provide support for South Carolina’s 29,614 Special Olympic Athletes.
So far, the relay has raised more than $15,000 and is set to be completed Friday.
